USAs Bryce Mitchell blev nyligen avslutad för första gåbgen. Nu har amerikanen berättat att han var sjuk i influensa under matchens gång.

Mitchell gick sin senaste match under UFC 282, som ägde rum i december förra året. Ilia Topuria (13-0-0) stod för motståndet och den sistnämnda tog hem vinsten via en rear-naked choke. Efter förlusten har det kommit fram att Mitchell var sjuk i influensa i samband med fighten. Under en intervju med ESPN berättade Mitchell att han endast hade några tusen dollar på sitt bankkonto och att han inte skulle kunna bli bokad förrän i februari om han drog sig ur den ovannämnda matchen. I had a couple thousand bucks in my bank account, and (the UFC) told me that, ‘If you don’t take this fight, we’re not finding you one until February. They said they’re booked. So, it’s like you can live off a couple thousand bucks in your bank, or you can f**king fight December 10th. And if not, f**k off until February.
Resultatet utgjorde Mitchells första förlust i professionella sammanhang.

Vidare berättade Mitchell att han tog matchen för att han behövde pengarna. Han trodde dock fortfarande att han skulle ta hem segern i drabbningen Väl under fightens gång insåg att att han inte skulle kunna nå upp till sin vanliga nivå.
I said, ‘You know what? I don’t want to live on a couple thousand bucks until February.’ I would have made it, because I could have scrapped by, and maybe I should have. But at the time, I thought I’d win the fight, brother. I was going in there with the flu to kick somebody’s ass anyways. That just wasn’t the case. I was not capable of kicking ass that night. I was capable of taking an ass kicking. I did do that pretty well.
Innan matchen mot hade Mitchell radat upp sex raka vinster i organisationen. Hans totala matchfacit lyder 15-1-0.
