In a recent interview with Yahoo! Sports, UFC president Dana White admits the promotion made a huge mistake in regards to featherweight Shane Burgos moving on from the organization to sign with the PFL.
“Basically, there were some mistakes that were made here, some shit that… he should’ve still been here,” White said. “I respect him very much and I wish him the best.”
Shane “Hurricane” Burgos joined the UFC back in 2016 and during his six years in the promotion, he fought eleven times against top opposition like Edson Barboza, Josh Emmett and Calvin Kattar. In his last bout he defeated Charles Jourdain by majority decision.
Recently visiting The MMA Hour, Shane Burgos opened up about signing with PFL.
“I went out there, I tested the free agency market, and I’m excited to announce that I’m signing with the PFL,” Burgos said. “It was not an easy decision. It was an offer I couldn’t turn it. I have two daughters at home, and I have to look at them in the face and say it was worth it when it’s all said and done in the sport. With this deal, I think that will secure that.”
The UFC president seemed to see it as a serious mistake to let the popular fighter go.
“100 percent. Big mistakes were made over here,” White said.
