Featherweight Shane Burgos fulfilled the final bout of his UFC contract when he defeated the tough Charles Jourdain a few weeks ago. The Bronx fighter enjoys being in the UFC but as a free agent he will look for offers outside the organization.

“I love being in the UFC. I love being a UFC fighter. But it doesn’t make sense for me to not test the waters, but we’ll see what they come back with,” Burgos recently said in an interview with The MMA Hour. “It would be negligent of me and disrespectful to my family to not even hear other numbers, and I would love to hear some other numbers. I’m not going to be sitting back for four or five months waiting for a deal, but yeah, you want to throw some numbers at me, I’m definitely open to listen.”

Shane Burgos is 8-3 in the UFC

Since joining the UFC back in 2016, Shane Burgos is 8-3. The only losses came against featherweight top dogs Josh Emmett, Edson Barboza and Calvin Kattar. Worth mentioning is that all three fights were awarded with Fight of the Night bonuses.

Even with the losses, the No. 14 ranked New York fighter feels like he’s close to the very top of the division.

“I don’t think I’m far off at all. If you just give me the name then I’m going to show up. I feel like I show up every single time” Burgos said.
