Efter UFC 287 gick Gilbert Burns ut med att anklaga Jorge Masvidal för att ha varit smord med vaselin under deras möte. Nu ber Burns om ursäkt för sin uttalande.
Gilbert Burns anklagade Jorge Masvidal för fusk
På UFC 287 fick vi se Gilbert Burns ta hem en bekväm domslutsseger mot Jorge Masvidal. Efter en relativt jämn första rond tog brasilianaren över mer och mer. Trots lyckad offensiv, där han bland annat kunde skaka Masvidal efter ett hårt slag, hittade han inte ett avslut. Burns, främst känd för sin grappling, anklagade efter matchen Masvidal för att ha varit insmord med vaselin. Han menar att detta gjorde det svårare för honom att använda sig av sin brottning.
I think I showed a lot of improvement, and that guy was freaking slippery. That’s an old dog, Miami trick with the lotion, because he was so slippery. Wow. One hundred percent, I do believe [he was greasing].
Masvidal svarade med att neka anklagelserna.
Maybe I’m the sweatiest motherfucker he knows, but I’ve never greased. I’ve never put on anything in my life for forever. I’ve never done that in my life. Maybe he should blame his technique for fucking being shitty, not being able to do anything but just hold on the ground.

Han bad även om ursäkt under en intervju med MMA Fighting.
To be honest, I was in the moment right after the fight. I think I made a mistake accusing the guy of doing that.
I’m not a guy that complains and makes excusesIf he did something, it’s all good but I’m not 100 percent sure that he did and I apologize saying that I know he did for a fact, 100 percent. No, I apologize to Jorge and his team.

He’s a freaking legend, 52 fights, going out on his shield. A lot of fights in the UFC. I just want to take that one back. I think I made a mistake kind of pointing fingers saying he did that. It was just in the moment. A little frustrated that I didn’t get the finish. I don’t want no drama with that, I’m cool with Jorge. He did his thing and I hope he accepts my apologies
That’s where I was more impressed with him. He was always in the fight. He’s a real fighter. Not any doubt, giving up or something, that never passed through his head. [All] 15 minutes, good position, bad position, he was always fighting.
