UFC-fightern Nathaniel Wood (19-5) hyllar Marc Goddard som inte stoppade en match där han var illa ute, detta då han senare lyckades komma tillbaka och vinna.

Nathaniel Wood medverkade i ett videoklipp för kanalen FightFront där han satte sig ner och pratade med en pacifist. Pacifisten var negativt inställd till alla former av våld, men var särskilt oroad över sena domarstopp inom MMA. Wood svarade med att berätta om sin tacksamhet till Marc Goddard som en gång gav honom tid att återhämta sig när han under en match blivit riktigt skakad. Matchen i fråga var när han mötte Josh Reed i Cage Warriors. Efter att han överlevt Reeds attack lyckades han vända och vinna matchen. Han fick därav behålla sitt bälte.
There’s been times where you see fights and you’re thinking, ‘Ref, stop this fight!’ And they haven’t stopped it. In my fight against Josh Reed, he’s smashing me all over the place for the first two minutes. Luckily, the ref, Marc Goddard, could see that I was still defending myself, could see that I was still in the fight, and he didn’t stop it. I then turned it around and won that fight.
Han fortsätter med att hylla Goddard då just vinsten mot Reed var en bidragande faktor till att UFC valde att signera Wood.
I”m glad he didn’t stop it, because I then won my fight, which led me to be signed by the UFC and completely changed my life. If he had stepped in, I would still be earning zero money, I wouldn’t have been able to move out, I wouldn’t be able to buy nice things, I wouldn’t be able to be getting married next year; I wouldn’t be able to afford anything. My whole life would have been completed changed if he had stepped in. So I thank God he didn’t.
