Den forne UFC-mästaren Conor McGregor kan komma att lämna buren för politiken.
Conor McGregor siktar på att bli irländsk president
Conor McGregor återinträdde nyligen igen i USADA:s testpool för att kunna göra comeback i UFC. Irländaren coachade som bekant i den senaste säsongen av The Ultimate Fighter mot Michael Chandler i somras. Matchen mot den forne Bellatormästaren har förväntats i sin tur äga rum någon gång under nästa år.
Detta har i alla fall varit målet. Irländarens tränare John Kavanagh avslöjade nyligen att deras tänkta comeback i april vid UFC 300 antagligen inte blir av. Även om det kanske blir ett annat datum verkar McGregor redan nu ha större planer än så.
Under de senaste dagarna har fightern hintat om att ställa upp i det irländska presidentvalet år 2025. Den forne UFC-mästaren valde att insinuera detta via inlägg på X, bl.a. ett svar till Elon Musk. Även om han inte delat några officiella tillkännagivanden så verkar McGregor fast besluten att ge sig in i politiken.
Fightern sade följande i inläggen:
I’d fancy my chances Elon, 100%. I’d need to be nominated either by: at least 20 members of the Oireachtas; or at least four local authorities (AKA county councils) to run. Most (26) local authorities are county councils. There are also 3 city councils (Dublin, Galway, and Cork) and 2 councils that oversee a city and a county (Limerick and Waterford).
A process. Either way, I’d just be happy with absolute transparency and consultation to the public. Currently there is none. Not an iota. False promises come around the time of election and then it is literally straight ignorance into the face thereafter. It’s disgusting. Even opposition politics seems to me more about the attempt of gaining power vs seeking their change. If those currently in power agreed to usher in all opposition stance on change it wouldn’t even be enough. It’s power/greed, the aim.
… A true democracy!… This is why I’d run, if I was to. To be a voice of the people that deserve to be heard. President of Ireland is a unique position to other countries but it would demand response to questioning. Dialect would be so good for us in the public. Our people feel ignored. Unheard. Until of course election time. Then the waffle begins.
McGregor blev fjäderviktsmästare år 2015 när han knockade Jose Aldo och ett år senare blev han dubbelmästare när han avslutade Eddie Alvarez. Därmed blev han även lättviktsmästare. Efter detta har han dock endast vunnit en match på fyra försök.
