UFC-mellanviktaren Paulo Costa vill inte vänta till oktober för att möta Khamzat Chimaev utan att få extra betalt.
Paulo Costa vill bli betald för att vänta med att fightas till oktober
Paulo Costa har inte fightats sedan han besegrade Luke Rockhold via enhälligt domslut vid UFC 278 förra året. Han har nyligen valt att utmana Jan Blachowicz men herrarna har inte lyckats kommer överens om en deal för den potentiella matchen.
Costa har länkats ihop med en match mot Khamzat Chimaev vid UFC:s återkomst till Abu Dhabi i oktober. Chimaev som just nu firar ramadan kommer troligtvis gå upp till mellanvikt vid sin nästa match och han ser ut att vänta till oktober innan han fightas igen.
Costa bryr sig inte om att behöva vänta till oktober för en stormatch men han vill inte att den förlängda frånvaroperioden inte ska vara utan ersättning. Brassen sade följande i The MMA Hour:
October is so long, it’s so far. That’s why I was happy with the UFC asked me to fight Jan [Blachowicz] at 205…it doesn’t impact my weight division at 185…I think this fight is gonna happen…but that’s why I haven’t locked up the deal yet. If you don’t want me to fight [yet], I need to be compensated for that.
Vill fightas i sommar
Costa säger dock att han ser framemot matchen mot Chimaev men brassen försöker ändå få till en match redan i sommar så att han kan fightas klart sitt nuvarande kontrakt:
I’m bothering the UFC to schedule a fight before, like June. think because they have some agreement [with the] Dubai government, so they need to push big fights for there.
Chimaev kallade nyligen dock Costa för en ”fegis” via Twitter där svensken indikerade att brassen duckar matchen. Costa reagerade i sin tur med förvirring över detta:
I like [the Chimaev fight]. I think it’s a good match up. I think has a lot of hype behind this fight; the people want to see that fight. The people always asking me [about] that fight.
”Lögnaren” Jan Blachowicz hoppade av den lovade matchen
Costa säger att att han dock blev erbjuden att fightas i lätt-tungvikt mot Jan Blachowicz. Polacken accepterade matchen första men valde enligt brassen överraskande att nobba matchen i söndags:
They said, ‘Oh, it’s OK, you can fight just at 205 right now [against] Jan, and even if you beat him, you can come back and fight [in] October at middleweight.’ So then the UFC accepted that, and I went [on] to Twitter, and I posted, ‘OK guys, the fight is on, me and the UFC reach the terms, and I think Jan accepted as well.’ So we’re supposed to fight May 6.
So then, Sunday, surprisingly, Jan declined the fight. He said, ‘No, I don’t want it anymore. I accepted the fight three days ago, but Paulo [hasn’t accepted], so I declined. I didn’t expect that from Jan, but this is a short-notice. So maybe he was not in good shape, maybe he was not training, or even an injury.
Blachowicz skrev dock på Twitter att det var Costa som duckade honom vilket fick ett bryskt svar från brassen:
Jan, he’s lying. I never turned out and fight. Actually, in fact, he is who turned out the fight. I have always been negotiating that fight. For three or four days, I was negotiating with the UFC. I never pulled out the fight. I was actually very happy with that fight.
I [told the UFC], ‘Whoa that’s a very good fight. I like that matchup. I like the way that Jan fights as well. He fought some guys who came up from middleweight division, like [Luke] Rockhold and ‘Jacare’ [Souza] and Adesanya, and he beat out these guys. So it’s a big opportunity.
