Sean O’Malley är inte bara säker på att han kommer att besegra Petr Yan, han lovar även att knocka den tidigare mästaren.

O’Malley står inför sitt tuffaste test i karriären när han tar sig an ryssen Petr Yan vid UFC 280 denna lördag i Abu Dhabi. Det är en lockande matchning där Yan senast kommer från en förlust i titelmatchen mot Aljamain Sterling medan O’Malley tar ett stort steg uppåt i kvalité på motståndare. Trots att det är hans tuffaste test hittills så är O’Malley säker på att han kommer besegra Yan på ett brutalt sätt.
Amerikanen sade följande i en UFC-promovideo:
People look at him like he’s this absolute killer, but I believe in my skill set. I have a longer reach and I do believe I will go in there and bounce my hands off his face until he falls. This fight is how superstars get created. UFC 280, I put Petr face first into the canvas in Abu Dhabi.
Vill bli lika stor som Conor McGregor
Om O’Malley inte bara besegrar Yan utan även knockar denne så skulle det vara imponerande då ryssen aldrig besegrats på det sättet förut. Vi har dock sett O’Malley knocka många av sina tidigare motståndare så det vore inget nytt för honom.
Om han lyckas få till avslutet så kommer hans stjärnstatus tas till nya nivåer och han kommer då få gå match om titeln härnäst. O’Malley tror dessutom om han knockar Yan så kommer han uppnå ett liknande kändisskap som Conor McGregor.
O’Malley sade följande i podcasten DC & RC.
People want a superstar. There’s really no one in the UFC right now that is that Conor level. Me, I go out there and beat Petr in spectacular fashion, I’m climbing. I’m not going to be there yet and I know that, but I’m climbing to become that guy. I want to be the Conor, I don’t want it to be competitive to where it’s like, ‘You’re up there with this.’ I want to be that guy. And I think the UFC fans want that. They want somebody that they can get super, super excited about, so most people think I’m going to lose but I think the majority of people want me to go out there and win, which is rare, I don’t usually think that, but I do think in this case that’s what it is.
