UFC-bossen Dana White verkar oftast inte brydd över sina konkurrenter och han kommer heller inte ligga sömnlös om PFL köper upp Bellator.
Dana White hånar PFL:s planer att köpa Bellator
Det har ryktats i flera månader att Paramount vill sälja MMA-organisationen Bellator där flera olika möjliga köpare nämnts. Nyligen rapporterade Front Office Sports att PFL närmar sig ett köp av konkurrenten. Dealen ska vara värd närmare 500 miljoner dollar.
Ett par dagar senare annonserade PFL planer på att sälja en minoritetsandel i företaget till SRJ Sports Investments. Detta för 100 miljoner dollar till företaget som är en del av Saudiarabiens offentliga investeringsfond. Detta bredde bara på spekulationerna om det möjliga köpet av Bellator.
Det återstår att se om PFL får till den ryktade affären. De behöver dock inte se sig hotade av UFC i konkurrensen om detta.
Dana White sade följande i det senaste avsnittet av UFC:s Contender Series:
Why on God’s green f******* Earth would anybody buy Bellator? So what we were just talking about with business and making the right moves and making the right decisions, there’s been lots of bad ones — Bellator would be one of the f****** biggest.
Why anybody would buy Bellator is beside me, but sit back and see how this plays out. I’m excited.
När det kommer till de 500 miljonerna i dollar som PFL ryktas överväga köpa Bellator så kan White endast le åt siffran:
Bellator’s $500 million? Awesome. Sounds like a steal. Buy that thing quick before who else does? Come on, you guys. It’s f****** silly!
Räcker inte bara med investeringar
På papper så skulle PFL och Bellator kombinerat bli den största konkurrenten till UFC. Den senare är dock den överlägset största organisationen i MMA.
En redig uppställning av fighters är en bra tillgång men White vet att kampsport i slutändan är en business. Detta innebär att PFL vid någon tidpunkt måste börja gå plus. De 100 miljonerna fån Saudiarabien låter som en stor boost. White har dock sett många konkurrenter dumpa pengar i försök att försöka komma ikapp UFC. Hittills har inga av dessa lyckats:
If you go in the dictionary and look up the word ‘business,’ there’s business and then there’s charity. I’m involved in both. I run a business and I do lots of things for charity. Most of these other guys are all running charities. Not businesses. Like I said, you can only do that for so long before it runs out, it ends. So, we will see.
When you guys ask me these kinds of questions, you ask me like this is the first time I’ve seen things like this or this is the first time somebody with money was getting involved. It’s about a lot more than money.
PFL betalar inte bättre än UFC hävdar White
White svarade på specifika kommentarer från PFL:s VD Donn Davis som jämförde organisationen med UFC. I synnerhet sade Danis emfatiskt att de betalade ”mycket bättre” än UFC. När han kommenterade detta valde White att kraftigt förneka Davis påstående:
One of the big things he said in there, which is absolutely false, is that they pay more than the UFC, which is absolutely positively not true. But I do see them waste unbelievable amounts of money. You can only waste unbelievable amounts of money for so long no matter how much money somebody has.
There’s either a lot of delusion or he’s uninformed. Almost everything in that statement is incorrect except for what happens in the cage determines your future. I think that’s the only right thing that he said. Good for him. Get out there. F******, let’s fire it up. Whatever. It’s all good.
Oavsett vad Danis sade gällande investeringarna från Saudiarabien som kommer hjälpa PFL konkurrera med UFC så känner White inget agg mot organisationen.
White har inget emot konkurrensen men han vet mer än de flesta hur svårt det är att förbli framgångsrik inom kampsport:
Listen, I’ve said this before about the PFL. I have no beef with those guys. Those guys have always been stand-up guys and have always been classy when it comes to the business. These guys are in this to compete with us and I respect that.
Det återstår att se om PFL får till affären och kan konkurrera med UFC på sikt.
